Applying for a Liquor License allows a community hall host and rent out their space for a wider variety of events and get more funds. While the PEILCC website has a lot of information on different license types and how to apply, it can be tricky to figure out exactly what you need.

Liquor License Types

Dining room: This license allows the licensee to purchase liquor from the PEILCC and to sell the liquor by the glass, and beer and wine by the glass or open bottle with meals

Lounge License: Only a Dining Room license holder can apply for a Lounge License. A Lounge License allows the licensee to purchase liquor from the PEILCC and to sell that liquor by the glass, and beer and wine by the glass or open bottle, with or without meals

Special Premise License: PEILCC will consider a Special Premises License if they are satisfied that the establishment is operated primarily for the advancement of recreational, sporting, cultural or other community activities and are economically viable without a liquor license. 

Club License: In order to be considered for this license the requirements of a club include:

  1. A clearly defined basis of membership and reasons for existence other than selling alcoholic beverages;
  2. Is non-proprietary and is not operated for the financial gain or personal profit of any member, officer or shareholder thereof;
  3. Has an acceptable constitution and bylaws;
  4. Has a business number with PEI;
  5. Has not less than twenty members; and
  6. Has for its objects definite purposes of a social, athletic, recreational, fraternal, benevolent, or patriotic nature.

Military Canteen License: The PEILCC can issue a Military Canteen License to camps, armories, barracks of active or reserve units of the Canadian Forces under director supervision and control of the Forces, in the quarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Branches of the Royal Canadian Legion and recognized Armed Services Veterans Associations.

Tourist Home License: The holder of a Tourist Home License may sell and serve liquor in the licensed establishment to guests of the tourist home.

Caterer’s License: The holder of a Dining Room ,Special Premise, or Club License with a fully operational kitchen can apply for a Caterer’s License.
A Caterer’s License allows a licensee:

  1. To operate at locations without a liquor license;
  2. Cater only to events where meals going to be served along with the service of liquor

Package Sales License: Only Dining Room, Club, or Special Premises License holders can apply for a Package Sales License.

Liquor License Requirements

  1. Application form accompanied with non-refundable application fee. This will depend on the type of License you’re applying for. See License Types on the PEILCC website.
  2. Personal History Report(S), Form #16,  Also Found Under Personal History Report On The PEILCC Website.
  3.  Detailed Floor Plan Outlining Proposed Licensed Area And Including Dimensions Of Clearly Identified Rooms, Patios, Etc. (Including Storage And The Total Number Of Fixtures In The Men’s And Ladies’ Washrooms).
  4. Rooms To Be Licensed Form With Measurements. This form is not online and you will need to contact PEILCC.
  5. Proof Of Ownership Or Legal Entitlement To Occupy For The Premises Being Licensed In The Form Of A Lease Or Deed.
  6. Complete Copy Of Letter Patent, Constitution And Bylaws, As Applicable, If Applicant Is A Corporation, Club Or Association.
  7. Resolution Of Meeting Of Officers Authorizing The Applicant To Apply On Behalf Of The Corporation, Club Or Association.
  8. List of directors and officers or list of partners.
  9. Certificate of Good Standing for a corporation, if the applicant is a corporation. Contact the Department of Justice and Public Safety’s Financial and Consumer Services Division at 902-368-4509.
  10. Written support from the community in which the establishment is located.
  11. Proof of Compliance with the Fire Prevention Act. Contact the provincial Fire Marshal’s office at 902-368-4869.
  12. Proof of Compliance with the Public Health Act. Contact  Environmental Health at 902-368-4970.
  13. Copy of the menu where applicable – food and liquor: liquor menu must include prices
  14. Proposed hours of operation form. This form is not online and you will need to contact PEILCC.
  15. Proof of valid Responsible Beverage Service Certificate.
